Gratefulness List
List 5 things you are grateful for.
You can try to do this every morning or night. Or whenever you think about it.
Simple things such as strawberries, the beautiful sunrise, a friend. If you focus on having this positive mindset it will change your default way of thinking.
As humans we tend to gravitate towards negative mindsets; focusing on the things that have gone wrong in our day or reasons why we shouldn’t be happy.
As this is habitual, it gives us the opportunity to try to create a new habit.
What are you waiting for? Comment down below some things you are grateful for, so we can share in our joys together!
2. Creative Outlet
Finding a project where you forget about other things going on in your life for that hour or 2 hours that you are working on it is greatly beneficial.
For me, it is doing YouTube Videos, painting, playing piano or ukulele. When I am spending time on these activities, I don’t think about the homework tasks or housework.
In this way you can give yourself an efficient break not just from working but giving your mind a peaceful rest too.
A creative outlet can be a emotional outlet for hard situations in your life.
Sometimes I find it is helpful to sing or write little songs about what I am going through. I feel like it is a good way to process the situation and come to terms with it.
So find your outlet take a break from your stressful situation or to help you work through whatever is making you anxious.
3. Talk to a Friend
Find someone who is a good listener.
Someone who can give you advice you can trust; inputting into your situation/life. Having a friend in your life whom you can share your fears and anxieties-however big or small, is so important.
As an external processor myself, I generally feel calmer after a sharing session with a friend or my mum.
Also knowing that someone is looking out for you and knows what your are struggling with can set you at ease. Almost as if the burden is shared with them.
As a Christian, I find praying to God and giving Him my fears, a huge way to reduce my anxiety.
“Do not be anxious abut anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests towards God” Philippians 4:6.
By giving your life to God means that He is your source of peace and rest.
And you can be assured that He will never leave you, nor forsake you, as stated in Hebrews 13:5.
4. Notice Small Things
Notice the little details throughout the day.
This can be helpful to live in the moment and enjoy the small joys or peaceful moments.
Whether it be stopping for 5 seconds to admire the glorious sunset painted in the sky, it helps you to ground yourself in the moment and stop rushing ahead to the next task on your to-do list.
5. Achievable Goals
Set small achievable goals.
If I am feeling extremely anxious to the point where I feel demobilised, I think of one thing I want to achieve in that day.
It could be: putting away the laundry, or doing groceries, having a shower, or doing one homework task.
This way you are saying to yourself that you understand that you need to rest, but it is also reasonable to get that one task finished.
6. Dress Up
Putting effort into a nice outfit or doing your hair special can make you feel put-together and beautiful.
Sometimes this is all it takes to lift your spirits; feeling better about yourself and motivated for the day.
7. Smile
Smile more, smile longer.
At first this may seem really forced or unnatural, but you’ll find that it will eventually become more genuine.
Especially if you are focusing on the small pockets of joy throughout your day and being intentional on showing it through a small smile to acknowledge it.
Try it for a day or a week and see the change!
Think about how that smile could bring joy to those around you too!
8. Tidy Your Space
A messy room equals a messy mind.
I find that if my room is cluttered and things are thrown everywhere, my stress levels increase and I become overwhelmed again.
Cleaning dirty clothes or dishes are simple tasks that doesn’t require a huge amount of concentration. You can put away 5 items in a room and stand back to see the difference.
Enjoy the progress you’ve made and ride the wave of achieving tasks.
